A classic example of the double-edged Italian billhook, or "pennato", this "Zocca" pattern has a bill oriented 90° to the handle for pulling cuts on thick plant stems and small branches. The bill orientation gives open access to the forte for general brush cutting or long knife-like strokes. The compact "hatchet" blade tackles heavier woody targets. The blade is distal tapered for strength in the tang and lively balance, while the upper ferrule has a tongue that allows it to be suspended from the belt when both hands need to be temporarily freed of the tool. The beech handle has flattened sides to prevent rotation in the hand, and they are flared at the base to prevent the tool from slipping during hard chopping. The unique lower ferrule prevents the compressive tension of the peened tang from forming splits.
A versatile workhorse!
